Kua number calculator
One number, from your birth year and the calculation convention your chart is read under. It decides which four compass directions work for you and which four do not, and it does not change with the year.
What the number is
Eight Mansions 八宅 gives every person one number from one to nine, minus five, which has no seat. That number puts you in one of two life groups, and the groups have opposite sets of favourable directions. There is no direction that is mildly good for everyone.
The compass belongs to the person rather than to the building, so the same wall of the same room is good ground for half the population and rough ground for the other half.
What to do with it
Every home contains all eight directions, so the work is assignment rather than avoidance. Your four rough ones are ranked from mildest to most heightened precisely because most homes force a compromise somewhere, and it is better to make the cheap one deliberately.
Knowing the number is the easy half. Which of your actual rooms can carry which of the eight is the question a reading answers, and the scale of the answer is a chair turned or a bed moved.
Common questions
NotesWhy does it ask for my full birth date and not just the year?
Because the year turns at Li Chun in early February, not on 1 January. A birthday in January or the first days of February belongs to the previous year for this purpose, and a calculator that asks only for a year hands those people the wrong four directions. This one shows you the adjusted year it used.
What is the calculation basis, and why does it matter?
The Kua formula branches on it: the same birth year gives a different number depending on which convention the chart is read under. It is a property of the calculation rather than a statement about you, and you choose which one applies. Interpretation stays the same either way.
My number came out 5. What does that mean?
There are nine numbers and only eight trigram seats, so 5 has nowhere to sit and redirects, to 2 on one basis and 8 on the other. The tool shows you both the original value and where it went, rather than quietly changing your number.
Is anything stored?
No. The calculation runs in your own browser, your birth date is never sent anywhere, and there is no account or email step.

The Kua number is computed in your browser by the same function the readings use, from the Li Chun adjusted year rather than the calendar year. The Kua by sector matrix was verified cell by cell against an independent numeric table before it shipped.
