Tian Xiang 天相

Minister. Tian Xiang 天相 governs mediation, support, loyalty, good counsel, and the tendency that comes with it is indecision, dependence on whom they serve.

What Tian Xiang is

Tian Xiang is the second-in-command, and the texts treat that as a competence rather than a rank. Its palace is where you make things work, keep the peace and give sound advice.

The reading rule the classics attach to it is that Tian Xiang is defined by what it serves. Strong company makes it excellent and weak company makes it directionless, more so than for any other star. The tendency to watch is deferral: a decision left to whoever the star is currently supporting.

How it reads in a chart

A star on its own is a tendency with no subject. What gives it one is the palace it lands in, which of the twelve areas of a life that palace covers, and how brightly the star sits there, since the same star at its strongest and at its weakest are not describing the same person. A reading states the brightness before it states the meaning.

Common questions

Notes
Is Tian Xiang a good star to have?

No star in this system is good or bad on its own. Each one is a set of tendencies with a matching cost, and what decides the reading is the palace it lands in, how brightly it sits there, and what else is in the palace with it.

What does Tian Xiang mean in my career palace, or my wealth palace?

The star supplies the tendency and the palace supplies the subject, so the same star reads differently in each of the twelve. That combination is what a full Zi Wei Dou Shu reading walks through, one palace at a time.

Have Tian Xiang 天相 read in your own chart

Which palace this star landed in, how brightly it sits there and what shares the palace with it are chart facts, not general ones. A reading walks all twelve palaces, one at a time.

Method and sources

The characters, readings and English names on this page are generated from the same star table the readings themselves use. What each star governs follows the classical treatment listed below, and the astrolabe is computed with a deterministic library, never estimated.
