What Yang Metal is

Your day master is the single character your whole chart is measured against. Yang Metal is the seventh of the ten heavenly stems, and the classical image is unworked metal, an axe or a blade: something with an edge, made for a decisive use.

Here is the part a trait list will not tell you. Yang Metal is excellent in a crisis and expensive in a calm week, because the same directness that resolves an emergency reads as a verdict when nothing is on fire. The edge does not switch off between uses. The skill is knowing which situations want cutting and which only want listening to.

How it reads in context

A day master on its own is one character out of eight. What changes the reading is the season it was born into, what else is sitting in the chart, and which decade the luck cycle has reached. Yang Metal in a supported chart and Yang Metal in a chart that fights it behave differently enough that the same advice would be wrong for one of them.

Common questions

Notes

Does Yang Metal mean I am blunt?

It means the chart resolves things quickly, which often arrives as bluntness and is not the same as it. Whether that lands as clarity or as damage depends on what else the chart is carrying, particularly whether there is anything in it that slows a decision down.

What does Yang Metal need?

Classically, fire to shape it and water to keep the edge from going brittle. Unworked metal is only potential; what a reading looks for is whether the chart contains anything that does the working.

Method and sources

The ten god relations on this page are computed from the stems themselves, and their plain-English names follow the classical texts listed below. Day pillars are computed with a deterministic astronomical library, never estimated.
