Yin Earth

The field. In Korean, 기토 gito, the same Yin Earth. The day master that makes things grow and rarely counts what it spent.

Element 土 Earth · Polarity Yin

What Yin Earth is

Your day master is the single character your whole chart is measured against. Yin Earth is the sixth of the ten heavenly stems, and the classical image is cultivated ground: soil that is worked, planted and returned to, rather than a mountain that simply stands.

Here is the part a trait list will not tell you. Yin Earth is generous by default, and default generosity is not the same as chosen generosity. Ground that is planted every season without being rested loses what made it worth planting, and the losing is gradual enough that nobody notices, least of all the person doing the giving. The skill is treating your own ground as one of the things being cultivated.

How it reads in context

A day master on its own is one character out of eight. What changes the reading is the season it was born into, what else is sitting in the chart, and which decade the luck cycle has reached. Yin Earth in a supported chart and Yin Earth in a chart that fights it behave differently enough that the same advice would be wrong for one of them.

Common questions

Notes
Is Yin Earth a nurturing day master?

That is the usual shorthand and it is only half right. The classical image is ground that produces, which is about capacity rather than warmth. Some Yin Earth charts are nurturing and some are simply productive, and the difference sits elsewhere in the chart.

How is Yin Earth different from Yang Earth?

Same element, opposite polarity. Yang Earth holds a position; Yin Earth is worked and yields. Neither is the stronger one, and both are read against the season before anything else.

Method and sources

The ten god relations on this page are computed from the stems themselves, and their plain-English names follow the classical texts listed below. Day pillars are computed with a deterministic astronomical library, never estimated.
