Yin Fire

The lamp. In Korean, 정화 jeonghwa, the same Yin Fire. The day master that lights one thing properly rather than everything faintly.

Element 火 Fire · Polarity Yin

What Yin Fire is

Your day master is the single character your whole chart is measured against. Yin Fire is the fourth of the ten heavenly stems, and the classical image is a lamp or a candle rather than the sun: a light that has to be tended, and that reaches a room rather than a landscape.

Here is the part a trait list will not tell you. Yin Fire is the stem most dependent on what it is burning. It sustains a small circle or a long piece of work at an intensity larger fires cannot hold, and it goes out when the fuel stops, which usually means when the people or the work it was giving light to stop needing it. The skill is keeping a second thing lit.

How it reads in context

A day master on its own is one character out of eight. What changes the reading is the season it was born into, what else is sitting in the chart, and which decade the luck cycle has reached. Yin Fire in a supported chart and Yin Fire in a chart that fights it behave differently enough that the same advice would be wrong for one of them.

Common questions

Notes
Is Yin Fire the same as being sensitive?

Sensitivity is a personality reading, and the stem is not making one. What the classical image says is that the light is focused and dependent on fuel. Whether that shows up as sensitivity, stamina or stubbornness depends on the rest of the chart.

Why do Yin Fire charts get read as intense?

Because a small flame concentrated on one thing looks hotter than a large one spread over everything. The intensity is a matter of where the attention lands rather than how much of it there is.

Method and sources

The ten god relations on this page are computed from the stems themselves, and their plain-English names follow the classical texts listed below. Day pillars are computed with a deterministic astronomical library, never estimated.
