Support 正印
zhèng yìn · also translated as Direct ResourceBacking that arrives through the expected channels. The ten god of nurture, knowledge and reputation, and the steadiest of the four that feed you.
What Support is
Support is an element that generates your day master, in the opposite polarity. It is Insight’s twin, built from the same generative relation and separated only by whether the polarity matches.
Opposite polarity is the direct form in classical practice, and here that reads almost literally: this is support arriving through the front door rather than around the side.
How it reads
The theme is nurture, knowledge, security and reputation. Support describes backing that can be relied on, whether that is people, an institution, or a body of learning a person can stand on.
Classical practice places it with teaching, academia and advisory work. With money it reads as security-seeking and backed, resources that come with something behind them. In how you relate to people it is nurturing and protective, the instinct to look after rather than to be looked after.
Where it sits colours it. In the year pillar it speaks of what a person came up inside; in the day branch it touches the closest bonds directly.
Why the same god reads two ways
This is the god most often read as simply good, and that reading is the one classical practice warns against.
A day master under strain finds Support exactly what it needs. Something is drawing on the chart and this replenishes it. Held against heavy output or heavy control, it is the difference between coping and not.
A day master already strong, with plenty of support and little drawing on it, finds the same relation smothering. There is nothing to push against and no reason to produce anything. Protection without demand does not build capacity.
Same relation, opposite reading. What decides it is the balance of the whole chart, which is the judgement a reading exists to make.
Common questions
NotesIs Support always a good thing?
It is the most comfortable of the ten to read and still not automatically good. Support feeds the day master, and a chart that is already well fed and has nothing drawing on it reads as protected rather than capable. Comfort and capacity are not the same, and the classical texts are clear about the difference.
What does Support say about my education?
It reads as a tendency toward learning through recognised channels and toward reputation built that way. It is not a statement about qualifications you did or did not get. Classical practice places it with teaching, academia and advisory work, which are the fields where that pattern is most at home.
How is it different from Insight?
Only polarity, and it shows in the route. Support comes through the expected door: the institution, the mentor, the recognised path. Insight comes sideways. Charts holding both tend to describe someone who learned formally and then went somewhere unusual with it.
Which stem is your Support
Computed · 10 day mastersSupport is not one character. It is a relation, so the stem that plays this role changes with your own day master. Find yours on the left and read across.

Method and sources
The relation, its polarity and the stem that produces it for each day master are computed from the same function the readings use, never typed. What the relation tends to mean follows the classical texts listed below.
