Fire Goat 2027, read against your chart
Every year arrives as two characters. For 2027 they are 丁未 (dīng wèi): Yin Fire over the Goat. They mean something different for each chart, and the table below shows what they mean for yours.
When the year turns
A BaZi year starts at 立春 (lì chūn), the start of spring. In 2027 that falls on 4 February at 09:46 Beijing time, 12:46 in Sydney, two days before Lunar New Year on 6 February. The Fire Goat year then runs until the next 立春, on 4 February 2028.
So anyone born in January 2027 still takes the Horse year’s pillar. The same rule is why a January birthday so often comes out as the “wrong” animal on generic zodiac charts.
What 丁未 is made of
The top character, 丁 (dīng), is Yin Fire. The classical stem verses, 滴天髓 (Dī Tiān Suǐ), picture it as a soft flame that keeps to the middle: strong without turning fierce, weak without going out.
The bottom character, 未 (wèi), is the Goat, the last month of summer. It is earth, and it holds three characters inside it: 己 (jǐ, Yin Earth) first, then 丁 (dīng, Yin Fire) and 乙 (yǐ, Yin Wood). Warm earth, carrying a little fire and a little wood.
Taken together, 2027 is warm and steady. That describes the year in general. What it means for you depends on what those elements are to your own chart.
What the year means for your day master
Your day master is the character a chart reads as you. Against it, every other character takes a role, one of the ten gods. The table gives the role 丁 plays for each day master, and the role of 己, the main character inside 未.
A Yang Water person, for example, meets 2027 as a year of earned results and of the rules they work inside. The year’s fire is money that comes because the work was done; the earth inside the Goat is the structure around them. Whether that reads as a year to build or a year to hold depends on whether fire and earth are what that chart needs, which is the question a full reading answers.

Which birth years it touches
The Goat also meets the animal of your birth year. The classical tables name three meetings worth knowing.
- Horse. Horse and Goat are a harmony pair, 六合 (liù hé). The two bind: matters tied to that pillar tend to draw together. The tables treat this pair as a binding, with no change of element.
- Ox. Ox and Goat sit opposite each other, a clash, 冲 (chōng). An area of life asks for change. Both are storage branches, and the tables note that a clash between two storages can open what was held.
- Pig and Rabbit. With the Goat, these complete the wood trine, 亥卯未 (hài mǎo wèi), which adds wood to the year for charts that hold either.
Two cautions keep this honest. Your birth year is one pillar of four, and what the Goat does to your month, day and hour branches usually matters more; a clash or harmony on the day branch touches you most directly. And a year sits inside the ten-year luck pillar you are already in, which sets the larger direction.
What the year can tell you
A year pillar describes posture and emphasis: where the year pushes, where it asks for patience, and which part of the chart it stirs. It does not say what will happen. A year-ahead reading is built the same way: the year read against all four of your pillars and your current decade, then laid out month by month as stretches that favour acting and stretches that favour holding.
Common questions
NotesWhen does the Year of the Goat start in 2027?
In BaZi, at 立春 (lì chūn, the start of spring): 4 February 2027, 09:46 Beijing time (12:46 in Sydney). The Lunar New Year festival falls two days later, on 6 February. Chinese astrology charts change year at 立春, so the Fire Goat year runs to the next 立春, on 4 February 2028.
I was born in late January. Am I the animal of that year or the year before?
Usually the year before. A birth before that year's 立春, around 4 February, belongs to the previous year's pillar, whatever the Gregorian calendar says. The free calculator works this out from your birth date and time.
Is 2027 a hard year for anyone born in an Ox year?
The Goat sits opposite the Ox, and the classical tables call that pairing a clash. A clash marks an area of life that asks for change. Your birth year is also only one of four pillars, and what the Goat does to your month, day and hour branches matters more. That needs your full chart.
